Thanks a lot. In VR, in my opinion TOTAN is the best table.

Imagine this would have the new BAM physics. :shock:

Smoke,

I have noticed that your download of this table has these files in addition to some other files:

totan.fpt
totan.XML
totan.zip

BAM always selects a ZIP file for the physics but your ZIP file only contains the custom ball. If you play the table as you have the files saved, BAM will use "totan.zip" for the physics and ignore "totan.XML" which is not what you want.

If you want the XML and custom ball to work correctly, you need to set it up like this so that BMP and XML are folder names:

BMP
269.BMP
334.BMP
XML
464.xml

Then you ZIP up the 2 folders together and both the XML file and the custom ball will work correctly. If you do it this way, you only need "totan.zip" and can delete "totan.XML".

I was actually curious about this and assumed that BAMs priority is zip first, then xml, but never both. So I always either deleted smokes zip, or renamed it until this was figured out. Custom Balls are nice, but proper physics are better. I also noticed on some of smokes newer tables the flippers almost have a delay in them and I need to hit them earlier then I want them to react.

George, do you know, when this happens (BAM loads the zip file without any physics included) what the default physics are? Is it the physics built into the version of futurepinball.exe or is the default.xml file that lives in the BAM folder?

OK. I just performed a test. I played the table exactly as Smoke provided the files. The results are rather odd. When I opened BAM, it shows that I was using "totan.zip" for the physics even though it only has the BMP files for the custom ball. However, I opened the "Physics Tweaks" option on BAM and found it is using the parameters from the "totan.XML" file. I guess I was wrong. It is rather odd though.

Smoke does not use dynamic flippers. The delay you are experiencing are a characteristic of the original flippers. You can copy the dynamic flipper code from Phantom of the Opera and paste it into TOTAN. I changed the minomega to 38 (rather high) and maxomega to 50.

Yes that stuff helps but Rav developed the method of identifying the points where the ball hits the flipper and the bounce control code. Rave also fixed the geometry of the flippers also. Gimli and I later developed the script for making the omega lower when it hits closer to the tip of the flipper and higher when it his the base of the flipper. That is what we are calling dynamic flippers.

I think Smoke Xml / zip combo is the Zedphysics technique...

I don't think so. The ZIP file has no XML file and no double flippers. I think he is taking about this stuff in the XML file except for the mass and omega:

<flipper
rotationSpeedChart="{0.0,3.0},{20.0,5.0},{38.5,11.7},{55.0,30.0},{77.0,100.0}[0.0,200.0],[5.0,5.0],[30.0,15.0],[60.0,100.0]"
newtonDamping="0.01"
releaseOmega="24"
mass="99999.0" omega="45.0" moeMethod="0"
leftXoff="0" leftYoff="1500" leftZoff="0"
rightXoff="0" rightYoff="1500" rightZoff="0"></flipper>

Smoke,

You might want to try out Gimli's and my version of Jaws. It has the latest versions of dynamic flippers. Version 1.05-2 and 1.05-3 have the latest but different versions of bounce control. You are welcome to use the code in the script on your tables if you wish:
