I'll say it directly, no offense to anyone. The farsight products look sharp and I wish the very best in their pinball venture.

For I just want to know one thing. What are these guys view about us.

Is the Virtual pinball community considered a threat to their business?
I mean, the "hobbyist" were holding the fort with their recreations for more than 10 years.

Before this game changer, there was a non-written law : "you don't recreate a title that have actually a commercial PC counterpart" (like recreating a zen pinball for instance)

Now, Every title will eventually get a PC counterpart..

*************************************

Will we receive a "...Thank you for your effort but from now on any table related to an existing real life, Console or PC counterpart, should be removed...On any VP or FP forum related". This is a bunch of web sites.

There is an extensive segment on licensing in the 15 minutes video so you can just wonder.
Maybe we should think about the future of our hobby since everyone knows that it will come to it eventually.

Steve

I also reacted on the whole long information how they get rights to the tables.

Still can this company demand removal of tables or do they have to go trough Stern etc?
I mean it,s recreations on real machines not their software versions.
Maybe VP is more in trouble since it uses dumped roms?

I always heard of this agreement between the community and I guess stern as they are only ones around. Still thats not an contract so that can change very fast.

If they are licensors, they can demand whatever they want..like removing from PinsimDB any related pinball tables which they have a license to. As I said, holding the fort for 10 years doesn't give any right to any hobbyist to use any medias to recreate anything.

We can just obey.

ups... than we should make a private backup of pinsimdb for that case... :o

only the tables of "Tii" can stay on pinsimdb, because they are own creations...
oh, and some own fantastic creations of steve... ;)

   ... Then, we shall not have more than "to privatize" the community with exchanges via e-mail and dropbox, no?

 ... or then another solution, with the immense talents who are present in GoPinball.com, the magnificent original tables which will be realized will make green of jealousy the "licensors" ... no doubt

If at some point we have to make the switch to an "original only community" to stay open, don't worry. I have more concept in my head than there are existing table.

And in my head, Everything is copyright free.

Think about it. We have (a sh*t load of) expert coders, designers, Layout guys, music composers, voice over talents, specialists in sound effects and talented 3d Modelers.

No company will ever beat the talent we have around here. If all we need are "original projects" to work on. I can prototype them easily.

lets sit and wait about this, not all developers are bad to bone (maybe some publishers are).

they seem to be some pretty good enthusiasts, so if they don't get crazy about the licensing issue, they for sure can have some of my money :)

the tech video looks pretty impressive... so it's all about live and let live

edit: i'll pick tom & black hole for try out

I also think that the situation is nothing desperate!
Who would buy their tables? ... Us .. (FP and VP friends) ... Kids !?...

The proof: they do their advertising on gopinball!

They know that we are true fans of pinball recreation.
Why they would break us our "toy .. and passion!" ... It would be foolish and counterproductive!

If we only had our own engine we could start an company "GOPinball Productions" :D
Wonder if Black is willing to sell FP :)

is it allowed for them to copy free own creation tables without permissions?
e.g. lets say the "ActionPin tables" of Steve or all others like "DEAD HUNTER", "3Angles", ...
