An addon which "scan" a fpt/fpl file for images too large, then resize them to 1024x2048 if they are 2046x4096, recompile the new table or library?

Come on...please tell me it exist guys...by now... :)

exist in our fantasies from now...However would be useful but resizing it's not a standard and simple thing. To achieve the better texture accuracy, image must be resized with a professional program (Aftershot, Paintshop....(Photoshop if you like mass ads) ), they resize images with different resample algorithms like Bilinear, Bicubic..and so on, you can choose one of this basing on the image

i know that could seems like a nerdish or meticulous thought but it's very important because you can see the difference

Could be easily done with the toolset from LvR:

Yeah some of the games probably have images that are way too big. Only big image that I use is the playfield, because it is the texture that is mostly looked at. 1024x2048 is about right but i go a little bigger so the .BMP gets to about 5mb i like to use BMP because it is more clear than .JPG compression. Don't know if there is a scanner HappyCab ? but you can just export it and look at the image properties to find out, manually..

Like Jon Snow, I know nothing. About programming with these anyway :)
So if it is possible, please make it anyone!

Not entirely true, I can do it with an image processor like image magick and PHP so there is surely a library (C, .NEt or VB compatible) that could do it.

By making a test started from this discussion I've discovered that future pinball ruins a little every image by creating some artifacts very similar to jpg compression even if the image is in uncompressed tga or bmp format... That's a bad news because when you use normal maps and height maps these artifacts is more visible under direct lights.
I wonder if there could be a way to avoid this "compression"

glad you say that. I always think it is better to uncheck "use texture compression" and have table build only with JPG. I don't get using BMP or TGA which supposedly look better...but compressing them in FP.

do some test, you will see what I mean.

I try to only use jpg. But i keep the playfield image always BMP.. because it is better quality and shows up for editing better than JPG.. I never use TGA.. but only sometimes when you want to have 1 texture with invisible see through cutouts. That is why TGA is important. The size of my tables are usually only 20Mb and that is very good size and fast download.

Anything over 100mb those games must have big files.. and maybe can be compressed a little.. sounds like a long and boring job.

When you save a table, FP compress all the pics (including already compressed pics like .jpg).
I don't remember which tool Chris used to do that but it was for saving space (10 Mo was a big file at the begining...).

I suggest nconvert - used it on daily basis at work. It is very powerfull, fast and reliable.
