This thread is to explain and ask if this project it's possible and legal.

In the last months several users written me saying they had problem using my tables optimized for a Customized Physic and BAM , this because they've always used good old FP and don't even know what is BAM.

Many of them are Visual Pinball users that obviously don't know how to handle and configure a nice complicated addon like BAM. but they feels much more comfortable when you pack a table with all files configured and organized in folders.
So this is the idea:

It is possible and legal to create a new FP installer configured with all the new features?
It should be structured in this way:

- Basic original FP 1.9 (with watermark) but with a different physic
- BAM included in the folders
- New newtable.fpt
- Old default.xml physic for all the old tables (2005-now)
- A new manual specific for this version

Would like to know if this is possible and if you like this idea.
Thanx for reading

both fp and bam have installers
so i guess you would want a supervening
installer that runs these first and bypasses them
if already installed , and then finally loads
the custom files in the right place

no reason why this should be illegal if you
are not altering the actual programs

maybe Ravarcade would know how to accomplish this

hmmm. if you read the installation disclaimer of fp I am pretty sure it mention that the content of the package cannot be modified for any reason.

In fact, we don't need to modify nothing at all,
would be a package with original +addons

I think it is possible to do it ... and it is quite easy.

But first, problem with licence.
From FP EULA:
Quote:
Reproduction and Distribution -
You may reproduce and distribute copies of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT; provided that:
a) each copy shall be a true and complete copy, including all copyright and trademark notices;
b) each copy shall be accompanied by a copy of this EULA;
c) such distribution shall not be for commercial purposes without express permission granted by Chris Leathley.
d) such distribution shall not be for Magazine CD Publication without express permission granted by Chris Leathley.

Based on this, i think is is legal. I think about 2 posible solutions:
1. Put inside installer full copy of FP install. This way user run one "setup.exe". After grettings setup program will unpack normal FP installer, run it. When normal FP installer end, first intaller will continue. This way i think we will be 100% ok with licence.

@HappyCab: This way we will "pack" full FP installer, there is no "repacking". I don't think this way is different, that allow to download FP installer from any other www site or/and put "setup.exe" in "zip" to minimize data transfer.
Based on point 'a' and 'b' of FP EULA i think, that EULA author know, that:
- program may be distributed "with something added";
- program may be "repacked";

2. Put all extracted FP files in installer and all other files. User will see installer pages:
- hello (grettings) with info what will be installed
- FP license (same as in normal FP installer)
- Same questions as in normal FP installer (target dir and start menu folder)
- Copy progress screen of normal FP.
- Part II - grettings with info about rest
- license for rest of software.
- questions for BAM install
- Copy/progress screen of rest of software

This second path i like more, it is more user friendly, but this way user will not have "FP installer". I think point 'a' of FP EULA will be filled only in 99.99%.
@HappyCab: Yes... i'm not 100% sure, if "repacking" is not violation of EULA.

There is also 3 path. We can create setup program without any FP files inside and during install procedure download FP-setup, run it and when contiune installation.

Any way, before we release it, we should one more time ask Chris.
We all are grateful to Chris for Future Pinball, so we should at least ask if it is "ok" for him (even if it is not aginst EULA) and if he want add anything (like own donate button).

----

@monnezzas: I'm not 100% sure, if i get your description right. Do you wan't to add table inside and distribute "table-setup.exe" with software? It will add ~30MB or more to table.

----

Here thing we can add:
- question during setup: Choose "default" phisics you want to use?
- physics-database: simple list of table names with matched physics. This is another way to tell BAM what version of XML it should load.

----

There is one BIG problem left: AV programs still gives to users false virus alert. This may break user experience.

No Rafal, I want to change the default newtable.fpt distributed with basic FP because in my opinion doesn't help newbies to create new tables.
I was thinking at something like the default new table you can open in Visual Pinball10 by pressing "File/New Table".

I never encounter this problem since I stopped using all these useless AV program, is the FPloader.exe that causes AV alarm?

Question for you Rafal:
Are you able to update BAM in this new package thru an installer that overwirte only updated files?
